27/10/11- Journal

Today's Journal
Today I met up with our lead singer Molly and talked over the ideas we have on filming. She is happy with all of it and asked how we would like her to act, and we said rather cheesy and melo-dramatic. As she did A-Level drama we are all very confident in the group of her acting capabilities. As a group I think we have definitely made the right decision as the role of our eccentric lead singer will fit her personal nicely. The music video we are hoping will be the right levels of fun and excitement but with some professionalism. We do not want it to look like a cheesy teenage girl singing to herself, we want it to captivate audiences so they will be fixed on the constant little gags and surprises. We also spoke over the production schedule for Saturday 5th November, we would like molly to be at the display with the fireworks. However if it does not have the same effect on the night we can have a second camera just filming the fireworks and we could make another nice effect by projecting on the gallery wall at school and her singing as the projection trails the walls.

Production Plan
Anima

We need to gather all of our props which include props:
Parachute men - £1 each, we purchased two packets in total of £2 for 16 parachute men.
Bouncy Balls - £1.60 for 15 balls on eBay, for 50 balls we will pay around about the £6 mark.
Giant Confetti Cannon - £2 each eBay, purchase 2 possibly for £4.
Glitter - Hobby Craft £1/2 each packet, about three to four different colours.
Confetti - 50p from Petals Loft in Bexleyheath, already purchased.

This is the over view of the costumes, what we are using and how much:
For the more subtle and soft part of the song we will be using a very hippy but natural looking outfit.
We will get this outfit from either Charlotte's collection or Libby's or last resort we go into a charity shop and buy one for £5 or under.
For the more louder and vibrant parts we want her to wear something very bright and fun preferably a dress from Molly's collection which is very 70's Bohemian.

We will be using different locations so that it sets the scene for the music:
The first location will be in the Gallery in the Art department for our first shot with the parachute men. This will not cost anything.
We will also be using Bostal Heath for our intertextual reference this also will be free to use.
When she is singing with a microphone we will put her in the gallery with a  green screen behind her, we were thinking of putting either some sort of tie die on the green screen or a massive image of the inside of an apartment.
We will also be using Danson Park on firework night so that we can film the fireworks to put into our music video

Do we need any permission for the locations we have chosen?
The only permission that we need so far are the scenes in the gallery as we need to make sure that their is no exhibitions being held in their at the time of filming or that no one is working in their and need it to themselves.

Who are we using in our music video?
We are going to use Molly Baxter in our music video as the main singer. We have asked her and she has agreed to film with us which has relieved us of that part of our planning.

Who will be on the set on the filming of our music video?
The people on the set whilst filming will be Libby, Charlotte, Si Hin and for only certain parts of the music video Molly Baxter will be present.

What do we want the end product to look like?
We want the end production to be a very Bohemian type video, that is a lot of fun to watch, dance to and listen to. This is going to be visually dynamic and pleasing to the eye.

18/10/11- Journal

Today's Journal

Today we told our friend Molly what we wanted to do in our music video, we still are yet to tell her everything. Yet she likes the song and seems ready to help us with the music video, which is really good news as we really felt our music video needed a performer, to raise the standards of it. Today we mentioned to her glitter scenes within the music video, in half term I would like to buy and test out all of our props and we can enlist Molly's help for this. We can also film all of them as tester shots so we can see what works best on camera and not. As a group we are still yet to buy all of our props and some matters in the music video such as the external shots at the fireworks display need talking over, as we need to make sure Molly can be there for filming. I'll update tomorrow on all of our decisions.

17/10/11- Journal

Today's Journal

Well today we were story boarding and I suggested using real fireworks, we deliberated where this could be done and collectively as a group decided at our local parks fire work display in November. This perhaps might be our first piece of footage actually shot. Also last week I had the brain wave of our lead singer should have an over excited expression when singing the line "Zing, Boom" and when the song says "boom" she blows various props at the direction of the camera. The props I thought could be glitter, today we also added confetti as Libby bought some for the video on Saturday. We are also going to use party poppers and confetti cannons. We are looking in to buying confetti cannons online along with the bouncy balls and Si Hin will be ordering them hopefully by the end of the week.

Today's Blog

Today we have finally got our performer, our best friend molly has decided to do it. Talking as a group on Saturday we decided that having a performer was a necessity, if we want the production of our musics video to look realistic. We will be planning further what we want our performer to be doing, we want it to be an instrumental band led by the female lead singer. But this is something we have to talk over, otherwise we could have just her and no reference to a band whatsoever. Also tomorrow we shall be story boarding and deciding upon final factors such as what props to buy.

Our Questionnaire

Questionnaire

When doing this questionnaire we do not have a main focus of younger audiences up to middle age, this is because we feel that these are the people that are more likely to listen to the music we are using; they are our target audience.

Song: Oh, So Quiet

Our Idea: For our music video we want to keep it fun and entertaining with lots of vibrant colours, we are using juxtaposition as well so that we can combine the lyrics with the narrative. We want to use a calm atmosphere when the song goes quiet for example a shot of some empty stairs or some parachute men falling in slow motion then when it picks up again the shot of the stairs is intruded by lots of bouncy balls falling down and the parachute men get thrown off course harshly. By doing this we are adding colour and fun to the video but making sure we follow the beat of the music. We also want to use time lapse within the video and lots of colour, that is our main focus.

12/10/11 Journal

Today's Journal

Today's lesson consisted of us being told if we are up to date on our blog with all of our research and planning work, then we can now finally start story boarding. Today I was away to do interviews for new history teachers so whilst i was away Libby made the questionnaire that we shall hand out at lunch today, to people who we think our apart of our target audience. I shall put the questionnaire on here promptly and update soon about the results we get from our target audience.

The genre

The genre of our music video is:

The genre of our music video is split between two as it is a form of indie rock, yet with a profound bohemian twist. Here is a definition of both to explain how they work together.

Extended meaning of Bohemianism:
Bohemianism is the practice of an unconventional lifestyle, often in the company of like-minded people, with few permanent ties, involving musical, artistic or literary pursuits. In this context, Bohemians can be wanderers, adventurers, or vagabonds.

This relates to our target audience as it identifies some aspects of their personal lives and ethos. That they'd like to lead a simple and natural way of life.

Extended meaning of Indie rock:
Is a sub-genre of alternative rock, it originated in the United Kingdom and the United States in the 1980s. Indie rock is extremely diverse, with sub-genres that include lo-fi, post-rock, math rock, indie pop, dream pop, noise rock, space rock, sadcore, riot grrrl and emo, among others. As grunge and punk revival bands in the US, and then Britpop bands in the UK, broke into the mainstream in the 1990s, it came to be used to identify those acts that retained an outsider and underground perspective.

This relates to our target audience, because it shows the fact that their original and do not like to follow the mainstream, their rather different. Links to their simple and natural way of life, as they want to showcase individual and obscure musical talents in easier ways. Opposed to being mainstream and having such a busy and hectic lifestyle.

Today's Journal

So yesterday me and Si Hin managed to buy sixteen parachute men for our music video. Today i spoke to Libby and Miss. Whitaker and we spoke about this new idea and our group came to the conclusion, that it will just be a segment to our artistic style music video. In tomorrows lesson we shall talk about our artist as our friend Molly has still not been confirmed. We shall also talk about the parachute men tomorrow and i will bring one in. So we can hopefully get around to asking the art department if we can quickly use the gallery and test one of the parachute men out, to see if the effect will work. I'll update soon about all of this.

Promotional poster for album

Paramore's album Riot!

Firstly the black, white and red colour theme connotes that the album is going to be about emotions. That it does not need to be flamboyant that the lyrics will speak for themselves. Also the fact that the word "riot" is repeated everywhere suggests that it is an eagerly awaited album. The scruffy handwriting connotes how they write their own lyrics, or perhaps the emotionally filled lyrics. It also connotes anger as if their shouting their title at you, Paramore seem to have a point to prove with this album. The fact that no one is standing directly in centre frame suggests that they are all equal connoting that no one had full control of the album, they all worked on it. The body language is hostile, for example Hayley the lead singers hands are pressed down as if shes on the edge. The boys in the band all look like their ready for a fight also to connote that they feel strongly about this album and will defend it.

Their clothing is that of typically youngsters jeans, tees and hoodies this connotes that they do not want to patronise their fans as they see themselves as equals with their fans. As if they are just ordinary people also, keeping their clothes black and white it makes in indigenous. So that people can't make judgments on their hair colour, their outfit colour or their skin tone. Thus meaning it strips the album and the band of any prejudices being made against them. The largest "riot" in red indicates that this is definitely the album name, also red being the colour of danger and warning its making people aware it here already. This in itself is another reference of attack, that this album could perhaps be controversial. But also because it was the band's first massively successful album.

Today's Journal

So yesterday me and Libby were out shopping and whilst out we looked at some props for our music video, we looked in to buying some marbles and bouncy balls. But whilst there we saw some parachute men, we didn't think of putting them in our video. However today i had the brainwave of buying either eight or sixteen of them, using our schools gallery dropping them at a good height. Then slowing down the footage so that when the song is gentle they will float down. Yet when the music gets loud we will have a fan and blow them off of their course. I had the idea of us showing their journey around a room, this will link to our inanimate object idea. I told the group about it this afternoon and they loved the idea and wanted to incorporate it in to the music video. So I will be buying the parachute men tomorrow with Si Hin after school.

07/10/11- Journal

Today's Journal:

So today me and Si Hin looked in to buying some props for our music video in particular we looked in to buying the bouncy balls for the music video. We found quite a few good bargains so we are just pulling our money together and we are going to tell Libby about this and soon we shall be buying them all. For research purposes i screen printed the pages on ebay, so i could remember the best sellers and prices. I thought i would put them in this post so that i can remember and show Libby them on Monday. So here are our final choices:

This is the first seller:

This is the second seller:

Lyrics to our chosen song

"It's Oh So Quiet"

It's. oh. so quiet
it's oh. so still
you're all alone
and so peaceful until...

you fall in love
zing boom
the sky up above
zing boom
is caving in
wow bam
you've never been so nuts about a guy
you wanna laugh you wanna cry
you cross your heart and hope to die

'til it's over and then
it's nice and quiet
but soon again
starts another big riot

you blow a fuse
zing boom
the devil cuts loose
zing boom
so what's the use
wow bam
of falling in love

it's. oh. so quiet
it's. oh. so still
you're all alone
and so peaceful until...

you ring the bell
bim bam
you shout and you yell
hi ho ho
you broke the spell
gee. this is swell you almost have a fit
this guy is "gorge" and i got hit
there's no mistake this is it

'til it's over and then
it's nice and quiet
but soon again
starts another big riot

you blow a fuse
zing boom
the devil cuts loose
zing boom
so what's the use
wow bam
of falling in love

the sky caves in
the devil cuts loose
you blow blow blow blow blow your fuse
when you've fallen in love

ssshhhhhh...

Song Preview

Our Song

This is just to show a preview of what the song we have chosen sounds like. So people can have a taster of it now, also so we can constantly know what to go back to. Just in case along the way of making our music video we lose the ethos's of our original ideas. Also if we need some extra inspiration whilst making our music video.

03/10/11 Journal

Today's Journal:

Today we finalized our mood board and finally photographed it, I also asked one of our close friends Molly if she could appear in the music video. This has still not been completely decided upon, if she were not to appear in it then we would simply use inanimate objects to act as the the main focus. We just have to focus on who our artist will be now and to finalize ideas for our editing and certain effects and tricks that we would like to appear in the music video. But today we did decide that we would like to incorporate paint exploding, marbles or bouncy balls that are colourful.  We also deliberating on locations a studio/warehouse is one option and so is London as a main backdrop for our exterior shots.

Our Mood Board

Mood Board:

This is pretty much our whole mood board, this shows that our main themes for our music video is colourful and vibrant. The origami connotes the influence of other countries and the bohemian essence we want in our music video. The squares connote the many dimensions to our music video but yet overall it will be simplistic. The colours again link to youth, vibrancy and a bohemian theme.

This is the logo for our band, we will copy the writing and put it on a new sheet then copy the dove in free- hand on to the mood board and making more origami flowers and placing them in the same places. Then we shall take a photo of it all and thus our logo shall be made.

This shows the lead singer should be vibrant when things around them is falling for e.g. our latest idea multiple colourful rubber balls being dropped.

This part of the mood board shows the fact the main feature to or music video is the juxtaposition being being a plain and natural person and a vibrant and colourful person. It's the bombarding comparisons of these two styles of life, that will be an occurring theme of the music video.

These are the lyrics for Bjork "oh so quiet", we wanted to have simplistic, fun and quirky lyrics so that when we make the music video we can incorporate these styles in them. As we want the whole music video to connote this joyous occasion, that draws audiences to want to be apart of it all. Also we wanted the lyrics to be simple so that the music videos audience can be anyone.

This is what we want from our music video, it is just the extension of our brief from my blog. But it describes all aspects represented on the mood board for e.g. colour and time-lapsing being an editing idea of ours.
